Agree with IBJ. We should all know that most championship teams would have been much quicker and smarter than Southend or anyone in this league, thus not allowing us the freedom we had yesterday. Having said that, we rarely played at such a high tempo in that division. One of my only criticisms of Steve Evans is that he abandoned everything we had become renowned for during our rise, in favour of a drab-to-watch defensive counter attack team, which was just about effective

Someone mentioned us becoming a yo-yo team. That would certainly be a vast improvement on our previous history since 1968.

Drab to watch if you don't like "technical football".....but "taking teams on"....like PW did for 30 odd matches ends in disaster...."they" suss you out and kill you dead. One goal - then you have to come out and take risks....then they have a birthday.
We're playing league one football and that's fine by me. But if we ever get back into the championship we'll need a rethink !

A very entertaining match and every player played a part.There was a" togertherness" about this team,everybody was backing the player on the ball.It was a pleasure to see Newell and Williams providing excellent service to the front two lads who worked tirelessly.Potter is the "steady eddie" that we have cried out for and Frecks fully appreciated his central midfield companion.The back four looked solid and a clean sheet for the O'Donnell should be a confidence booster.Keep it going Warnie.

Still a lot to do but the only way to learn is to play competitive matches. The physical attributes appear to be ok....size - strength - speed.....and technically not bad....heading - passing - the anticipation only comes with time and playing alongside a team mate / mates to get an understanding.
League one is a great schoolroom because mistakes can be made without being unduly punished. Then - in a season or two....Championship clubs will come knocking on the door like they did at Barnsley. That's when we'll see what ambition is left in the club.
Can't compare last season....teams were clinical and small mistakes punished every time.....naive tactics played under PW and the results were plain to see. This year it's run run Rotherham - but the time for back heels and flicks show the level of opponents. Fleetwood was a good lesson.....just fitness now and avoiding injuries to have a "successful" season.

IBJ, there will be injuries, there will be suspensions, there will be loss of form. As in life, its not always the hand you get, its how you deal with it. In a very short space of time Paul Warne has demonstrated that he is more than a trainer, or "cone placer" as some called him. He is intelligent, articulate and knowledgeable about the game. The squad he has put together is promising, dead wood has been set adrift and now its time to "manage" the club, make signings when needed and when possible and get to 50 points as soon as possible. April/May will tell us if he succeeds or not. However, at this moment of time, what would constitute success? Top 6? Mid-Table? Staying up being ready for another tilt in 18/19?

Proctor also looks to be a good signing in the making. For a big lad, he has good feet, will hold up, bring others into the game, create chances for others and has a fair old shot on him too. Like Revell? In some respects, yes, but possibly a bit more in the locker. As for Moore - well, also looking very promising - think Ipswich were smart to get him from Truro for next to nothing

Ah fair enough then. I thought I'd also seen on another thread someone say words to the effect of "he'll only be any good from the bench, not be worth starting him." But it could have been the same poster poster to be fair.
Just seems such an odd thing to say when he's made a very positive start
