    New pub in town

With the demise of such pubs as the Mount Sydney and the Stakeford it is good to see that the Lyver in St. Michael Street is set to re - open after closing 3 years ago. Trading from 1983 until 2014 before shutting it is to be revamped and called The Lantern.

Quite a history surrounding the place and an added attraction to Nith Place which has the Queen of the South bar opposite.

Hope they've saved all the old Dumfries memorabilia from it

It will be a shame to lose the magnificent murals around the walls even if we have been unable to see them for the last three years !!

Anyone remember where the original Lyver pub was (may have been spelled Liver) ?

It was the Lyver and it was roughly where the entrance to the Loreburne Centre bus stance now is!

Around the corner from the Lyver up the high street was the Cathron Hotel.
