Another potential target of ours Jackson Irvine from Burton Albion who plays in midfield who has been impressive for the Brewers since he joined them is on the move to Hull City. Scored a header against us at the Pirelli and never looked back since.

Rowett is a decent manager but has inherited a poor set of players. There's nothing new about our problems, I've been banging on about it for far too long. We don't press, our play is slow and predictable and there's a lack of movement off the ball. Rowett knows this and has said as much himself.

Any talk of sacking Rowett is moronic. Give him time and I am sure he will sort it out. He will move the dross out, but because of contracts will have to do it slowly. It will be a slow rebuilding process.
    100% agree KCG.
Both this site and, much more importantly, our club both seem to have been overwhelmed of late by a surfeit of 'dross'.
Much easier to cure the forum's problems, but how GR is to offload the overpaid underachievers I really don't know. From a 'marketing' point of view how on earth can you go about getting rid of so many 'expensive to run and maintain but lacking basic skills, common sense and effort' players?
Have a feeling that activities off the pitch in the next few days will define the coming season. Doubt we'll end up as relegation material but changes will be necessary if we're to progress from also rans to promotion candidates. Either way...the damage was done long before Gary Rowett arrived and mostly goes back to the Paul Clement transfer 'windows' imo, though who ultimately identified and sanctioned those signings is anyone's guess.

The problem with a slow rebuild and reducing wages KCG, like NC was told to do, is MM is losing an estimated 15 mill a year!!

Sounds massive mac, but if you're worth about £500m the perspective maybe changes a bit. Not that I'd know!

Agreed rA, but if you've already committed significantly, to be faced with covering losses of that amount for ....how long?????....we don't know certainly makes even someone with that level of wealth start checking his bank statement. Yes, if you've got countless oilwells probably no problem, but much of his wealth will be 'tied up' and at some point he will want to put the 15mill into Derby's books and not his!! The current impasse on moving players out is like an abscess weeping - it needs cutting out so the poison does'nt continue to fester undermining ultimately the whole!! But that isn't going to be easy!!
No, MM stated that people have let him down and by making it public shows he is concerned. He is being sensible but his response may not work at which point selling may be best for him and the club!

Agree entirely mac, but think of the following players as cars you might want to sell.
JR...good runner but unrefined and lacks sophistication. SatNav entirely unreliable.
BJ...nothing like as smooth and desirable as the name suggests. Sluggish performance and inclined to overheat.
JB...poor starter, unreliable runner, early signs of rust.
Would you buy one of those...especially when you consider how expensive they all are to run?

And therein lies the crux of the problem!! When Rush and Evans left Mel's dissatisfaction(dare one say anger) was so obvious it was almost painful. He clearly, rightly or wrongly, placed most of the blame at their doors and the true extent of the mistakes that were made are now clear and have created the knackered old jalopy (using your car paraphrase) we now see!!
Mel has made many mistakes, all with goodwill, both with his manager merry go round and the transfer spending (not the how much but the choice of players). Can GR do a Nigel and manipulate the playing staff and a clearly tight budget to sort the mess out. Hopefully, he can and produce decent football but one worries about a few early decisions not least the persistence with such as Russell and Butterfield. Yep, a long Season ahead!!

    I wouldn't say owned

He sorted it out and got us up the table

We are all allowed our opinions no matter how poor they may be in hindsight

He was a success in the end
