    Motson

This is probably an age thing, but will you miss him? Or were you more of a Barrie Davies fan, or a Colemanite, or even a fan of Hugh Johns, who I reckon called more Derby goals than anyone else, ever? Are there any commentators to equal such Collossi these days?

Never really a fan Andy. Always thought he was a bit of a twit. Much preferred Barry Davies...or even Kenneth Wolstenholme but maybe that's a 1966 thing.

He was part of the best football interview I've ever seen with Clough snr. Can't knock his knowledge, like an encyclopaedia (google it kids).

Not footie but I liked Eddie ' it's an up and under' Waring doing rugby!!
One classic 'he's broke his leg but it does'nt hurt' emphasising real men who play rugby!

Really disagree mac. Think Eddie Waring did rugby league a great disservice...made it a joke 'only for northern folk' sport imo. He was the ultimate 'professional Yorkshireman'. On the subject of commentators I really liked Eddie's mate, Stuart Hall, as far as radio football summary was concerned...but look what happened there!

    If we're moving to other sports...Brian Johnston...brilliant.

Top five commentators - no need for further discussion, Rats can lock this one now.

    1: Harry Carpenter
    2: Peter Alliss
    3: Sid Waddell
    4: Bill McLaren
5: John Arlott (one for the ****agers)
