    Barnsley vs Derby

Nip and tuck 1st half a battle is on the cards here at Oakwell some more goals to come in this game as the 2nd half approaches. All in all things running smoothly so far.

Barnsley are heading to Wembley and they have Hammill to thank who was their major driving force to turn the game around for them.

Back to the drawing board for Derby and celebrations for Barnsley as they booked themselves another trip to Wembley.

It finishes Barnsley 3 Derby 2 at Oakwell.

Not the end of the world. Key players rested. Thorne survives, kid makes his debut we had plenty of shots and most of them on target.

Would have been nice to win but would not imagine that Rowett is throwing hot tea around the dressing room.

Disagree, it was a winnable game, wtf is the point of cup competitions if teams like us treat them with contempt? Yes we need to give players game time but wholesale changes like that? Surely forming a winning habit is worth it?

It's a debate/argument that raises its head whenever we play or moreover lose a cup game when fielding a weakened side.

Agree that a winning mentality is a good thing, few would argue with that.

At the beginning of the season I expect us to be challenging for promotion but don't really give two ****s about a second rate cup competition sponsored by a Thai energy drink.

A win would have seen us at Wembley granted, but against a second string Spurs side also not bothered about the competition. Nobody really takes this cup seriously anymore and most see it as a chance to field fringe players and those coming back from injury.

With the comings (or not so) and (late) goings in the transfer window our squad, particularly midfield is left looking a little thin in experienced quality.

It might not be to every ones preference but I won't wake bitter about defeat tonight, well certainly not like I would had we lost there in the league.

So we're off to Wember-lee, again!.
I agree actually that whether we as fans all look at the Champship as being more important than the Lg cup, surely you want the manager/coach to play the best side everytime, if its possible.
Anyway heres the highlights, enjoy them and we have them on Vhs and betamax lol.

Anyway Wembley might be now out of the equation but got Las Palmas to look forward to next week so that eases things a little.

    Onwards and upwards.....

Rowett could of used the side we played on Friday night but instead he opted to experiment with his squad and excess the strengths of other players within the squad but unfortunately they got found out on this occasion and has cost us a trip to Wembley but on the other hand he now knows which is his best side and which side needs strengthening more to compete with the 1st team.

This game also has shown that we definitely can't keep consistent and that is something that Rowett needs to go and work on in the drawing board to get both of his 1st team and 2nd team working to drag out results on a more consistent basis.
