So racist abuse is OK is it?

Of course it isn't and nobody has said that it is.

It's just that these types of incidents seem to generate an immediate response from the police, yet more serious crimes are either dealt with months down the line or completely ignored.

The inference is there for all to see, those who want to see it, that is...

I'll refer you to my previous post, cut 21000 police jobs and the response times for all crimes goes up, police under increasing pressures all round, blame lays fairly and squarely at the gov't's door, plainly.

As for the pathetic bloke who shouted the abuse, what was wrong with the stewards holding him, from what i hear a steward heard it, and should've dealt with it there and then.

Make of this what you want.
Yesterday my 14 year old grandson had his bike forcibly taken off him by a 22 year old man. Witnesses identified the man, who is a known criminal, and my grandson's parents gave his name and address to the police.
The police said the crime wasn't serious enough to warrant their early attention even though the culprit could have been caught red handed in possession of the stolen goods.
So law-abiding people decided to take matters into their own hands and, with the help of a few "handy" friends, they eventually recovered the bike at around midnight last night.
I'm not sure whether the police's response was down to stretched resources or misplaced priorities but, either way,it doesn't seem right.

This is exactly my point about numbers though, with sufficient numbers this kind of stuff would be dealt with, and to my mind, if you crack down on the 'small stuff' consistently, then it surely diminishes, i'm all in favour of zero tolerance policing, that may surprise some of our more blinkered posters....My idea of decent policing is taking those who affect people's everyday life off the streets, that includes petty theft and burglary etc, the rest follows naturally imo.

The police themselves are easy targets to criticise.

They are not the ones who keep cutting the numbers or stretched to the point of not able to do there jobs.

Take a look at Downing Street and you won't go far wrong with the root cause of the issue.
