A Motherwell great passes on - Bert McCann

The news of the sudden death of former Motherwell captain Bert McCann will give cause for reflection to those fortunate enough to see our fine wing half in his almost 250 appearances in claret and amber. - External Link

Bert wasn't a massive physical presence, but he had ways of protecting himself, hence his nickname 'Digger'. He didn't score often, but did against Rangers in a 3 - 3 draw at Fir Park around 1960? We'd been doing badly in the league, and that result turned the season around. Thanks Bert; you won't be forgotten in Motherwell.

Today's 'Glasgow Herald' carried a very good and extended obit for Bert.
