    Very O/T opera

Ok this is very o/t but I'm taking mrsvillamiller to watch the opera boys at the civic theatre next month and I'm not sure about this ... Nessun dorma brings a lump to my throat but I'm a ragged arsed ex miner and should I like opera or does this make me a puff 😎😎😎😎😎

    Yeah you're a puff.

Seriously though it's just another form of entertainment, you will probably like it and be hooked and turn into another Kempo.

I can listen to some well known pieces - especially by Puccini or Bizet - but I've sat through, I think, six full operas and I can safely say I found the majority of it boring. Puccini's Turandot (from which we get Nessum Dorma) and La Boheme were generally OK but Mozart and Wagner were just hard work for me.

Having said that, the duet from The Pearl Fishers ("Au Fond du Temple Saint") is guaranteed to make the room a bit dusty each time I hear it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOewwwDgsTk

Keep an open mind, Villa, and I'm sure you'll hear something you like - but, if you're like me, your mind will wander a bit for long periods.

I'm a big opera fan - musically speaking only as I have several hundred opera CDs but would never go to watch an opera. That said I found Zefferelli's film of La Traviata excellent.
Mention of kempo is funny. The lad never reads a book and musically is a Bay City Rollers fan.
