Wow. Big news that.
Pantomime villain for all he's done wrong (incl. treatment of SBR, etc.) and the money he dragged out, taking the club to the brink.
But he never lacked ambition for what he did to raise the profile of the club. Always vocal in his discontent about Ashley's many bad decisions.
Regardless of whether you loved him, hated him or both in equal measure: sad day for Newcastle.
Aye. He did bring Shearer back as well.
RIP Freddy.
For all his failings, he thought like a fan and acted like fan would.
He tried to capture the good times and place the club into the high reaches to finally win something and basically fell slightly short.
Rest in peace Freddy.
His legacy is tarnished because of a number of mistakes/incidents-that infamous video of him and Douglas Hall, sacking Sir Bobby (and the nature of how he did it), the enormous debt...but, he also brought us Keegan, Shearer and the aforementioned Bobby Robson...and just look at our ground.
All in all, the good far outweighs the bad.
RIP. Freddie.
Aye, echo the above.
If you look at it in real terms, forgetting the alternate realm of football and it's billions, Freddy was a fan who spent (and borrowed) a **** load money to put our club at the top... How many of us have done that?
He achieved a lot, St James Park is one of the best grounds in the country, he had one of the best teams at one point, top players and it put the city on the map in a lot of ways.
He made a **** load of mistakes, but don't we all? We all **** up but the difference is his failures were there for us all to see and were a detriment to our club and negatively effected a lot of people at times but on the flip side he brought excitement and hope to a lot of people, sometimes reality gets lost in the crowd of high expectation and materialism.
I reckon he probably lived a pretty good life and didn't have bad innings.
Rest in peace
