I think so. If they finish below 3rd then I don’t think they’re going up. They could always fluke a result in the final at Wembley but I can’t see them beating Luton, Barnsley, Portsmouth or Charlton in the semis.

Thinking back to some of the comments from them when we were in the Chimpo, this season has been hilarious from start (and I hope) to finish.

I think they'll massively struggle in the play-offs. All season they've expect to go up automatically, it'll be a mental body-blow if they don't i think.

The other sides in the mix around them are all use to that sort of grind as well, Sunderland are not.

Sunderland cannot afford to get promoted, it seems.
Apparently (if true) their wage bill alone rises another 5 million and that's before they sign anyone.

It might be wiser if they get rid of the higher earners before they try to move ahead into the championship.
