    OT TV for expats

Just wondered if anyone knew the best way to see UK TV channels/SKY etc when living abroad? Dont mind paying a subscription if there are any more "legit" sites lets say. Any help much appreciated

    Bonsoir/Salut Jimmy .........
Most Brits 'ere get UK Tv in France via satellite. You can do this via a SKY digibox or a Freesat receiver or a free to air satellite receiver bought off the store shelf or Amazon in our case.

No subscription for Free/to air channels can be received by any SKY, Freesat or free/to air digital receiver irrespective of whether it was purchased in the UK or France. With these gizmos you will be able to receive all the BBC & ITV channels, Channel 4, Five, More4, E4, CBS Drama, 5US, several news channels, some film channels including Film4, quite a few other varied channels and numerous UK radio channels These can all be received by aiming a satellite dish at the Astra 2 group of satellites located 28.2 degrees east of south. We got quite a large dish on gable end of house and no probs whilst other folks have smaller dishes from UK and report no probs via such a Sat tracker ....... https://www.lyngsat.com/Astra-2E-2F-2G.html
Canal sport + is our treat which always has decent games on all around the Euro leagues and has the bonus of not having Big Ears Lineker popping up with his gormless smile to ruin 'yer weekend.

Cant give any advice on that one I'm afraid, worked in the Netherlands myself a couple of times in the last year, and can agree the T.V is shighte, though at least they show plenty of stuff that's originally made in English if you change the language settings on the remote, trouble is most of its American, not sure if that's better or worse than local Dutch T.V!
Good luck if you make the move, nice place, if a little expensive!

Satellite or Cable then Jimmy ?
When we first came over we lived in van whilst rebuilding was done and cable was okay apart from occasion freeze issues. My husband reckons you'll need minimum 2MB/second speed for no receiver problems first of all,so check the download speed.
Then choose your connection option - cable,wi fi or live plugs (no cabling).Use a HDMI cable to connect your PC to your Tv to get the best sound and picture quality. (Older PCs and Tvs may only support a VGA cable, and this will not carry sound) as we initially found out.

For Freesat (as we've got Yorkshire pockets) it's quite easy to fathom out yourself and in our case just a larger dish & ladders,a lot of swearing and jobs a 'good ' un'.Obviously dishes on flats and inner city areas can be an issue as can be if your going to be on the move regarding satellite or cable initial investment.
    Thus concludes this Tutorial.
