One slight correction, Legs... short term money is the driving factor in politics. That's why he's signing out on climate change but by doing so the ultimate bill for the US in terms of hurricane and storm damage, pollution control and flooding will be far greater than the costs incurred by a worldwide drive to fix things.
As expected, Trump buries his head even deeper in the sand:
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump, on a tour of Asia, said guns were not to blame for the shooting.
"We have a lot of mental health problems in our country, but this isn't a guns situation," he said.
It does not matter who the president is, or has been, or will be the way I see it. The fundamental right to bare arms is enshrined in the constitution, culture and fabric of American society. The production, sale and use of guns including hunting and/or recreation is an economy itself. That is the elephant in the room and will never change.
The question is will methods of gun control ever change?
I think you could tell that Obama wanted to do something about it but just couldn't, he knew there was a problem and was fed up having to hold press conferences about mass shootings that he couldn't stop. In an ideal world he would have tried to do more if he thought it would be successful, Trump on the other hand couldn't care less and just wants to do and say whatever will please the majority of his backers/fans.
As I said to an american friend of mine, it's not about taking all the guns away (after he'd said it would be impossible, there's too many) it's about making them less accessible. Other than making money what reason is there to keep making and selling guns? That should be the first step before they take them away, just stop making them (for public use).
