    Irn Bru - Quarter Finals

Crusaders of Northern Ireland, Dundee United, Falkirk, ICT, Qos, Dumbarton , The New Saints of the Welsh League and Raith Rovers. Things are slimming down a bit now guys . The draw is on Tuesday afternoon. Who do you want and why ?

I wouldn't want a trip to Northern Ireland or Wales and would be happy with Dumbarton at home. I was going to say Raith but with them leading League One that could be a tricky tie, as St Mirren found out today.

Crusaders at home. A mixture of Dundee United reserves and youths beat Linfield today. Northern Ireland league is a poor standard.

A home tie against them would do nicely. Don’t fancy a trip to loyalist Belfast. If we’re to make a long distance away trip let it be Wales, please.

Sorry, but this was brought up last year. The New Saints play in Park Hall/Whittington that is in Shropshire. Not Wales.Would love it if we got them there mind you.Prefer them at home thoughCrusaders at home would be the optimum draw.

So it would seem although Wikipedia says “The New Saints or TNS is a full-time-professional Welsh football club representing Oswestry in Shropshire and Llansantffraid-ym-Mechain in Powys, Wales”. No doubting that they play in England though! Either way, i’d rather go there than Seaview. Agree Crusaders at home would the plum draw though.

Would like a home draw in this cup as the Scottish cup is the week later and a nice away game in that would be better but not long to we find out.

The away game to Dumbarton will have to be rearranged as that is when the quarter final match is due to play 11 Nov with the 3rd round of the Scottish cup the following week.

Went to see TNS play Elgin City last Saturday, they are a very good side. It will be a difficult game.Their centre forward will cause Queens problems, but overall Queen should be good enough to win the tie.

    The New Saints -

Park Hall is situated around one and half miles north east of the English town of Oswestry, and a similar distance south of the small town of Gobowen. To be honest, if feels like it is in the middle of nowhere.

Park Hall, was the former home of Oswestry Town and was until a few years ago an athletics circuit with a small stand on the south side. This stand has now been replaced by a sprawling 2 level complex called The Venue, which consists of a large car park, a bowling alley, and a fitness centre on the top floor, and the football club offices, dressing rooms on the lower floor leading out to pitchside. The former athletics circuit has been removed and replaced by an artificial playing surface and modern corner floodlights which can be adjusted to community use on non matchdays. Two sides of the ground look out onto a countryside setting, sheltered by a row of trees that once surrounding the oval shape of the athletics circuit. The ground itself does have a perimeter fence, but not of the type you would normally associate at a football ground, as the whole pitch is visible from the football traffic car park at the Burma Road end.

The North and West sides of Park Hall are essentially the same, a narrow strip of flat standing tarmac surrounds the pitch with the remains of the athletics circuit now outside the borders of the ground. This leads all eyes to focus on the facilities on the south side or The Venue side of the ground. The structures from the outside rather give the impression that Park Hall is a well developed stadium, but this is not the case. There is a temporary seating structure on the South side. A narrow all seated stand with a canvas roof, with a capacity of just under 300 sits towards the East End. For bigger games then additional temporary seating can be brought in to sit directly in front of the bare wall of the Venue. Above this area is a viewing balcony which is accessed by a metal staircase at the side of the players entrance.

However the stadium has been improved with the opening in 2012 of a new semi-permanent structure at the East End. This covered all seated stand has a capacity of 500. Currently it only runs for half the width of the pitch ending just behind the goal, but it is hoped that at some point it can be doubled in size to fill the whole end and have corporate hospitality boxes incorporated at the back.

For me , today's draw was all that is good about having the Irish and Welsh League teams in the competition. This is completely away from the norm for us and quite exciting. Imagine travelling through England for a competitive Queens game ? Let's hope they sort date out soon.

So no home match but out of all the teams that were left TNS (2nd trip to England in this cup) is the best away game we could have had so I can`t really complain but would like know quite quickly if this will be moved to Sunday or later on Saturday so I can make my plans for the trip.

Good to see the Scottish Cup draw is on Saturday and I am fully expecting us getting another away game as we have only had 1 cup game at home in the Irn Bru Cup as I am not counting the 2 that were guarantee from the Bet Fred cup group stage.
If we do get a away game in the Scottish cup it would give us 3 away games in a row for the 3rd time this season and if the Dumbarton game get rearranged between these games it could even be 4.
    Sat 4 Nov Morton
    Sat\Sun 11\12 Nov TNS
    Sat 18 Scottish Cup (Away?)

Interesting draw for the fans and at just over 200 miles from Dumfries and with better roads should be quicker and easier to get to than Inverness (230 miles). Pleased that it is practically a home game for Jimmymerseybranch who moved to Ruthin Wales a couple of years ago.
