The proposed £20m takeover of Barnsley – which features baseball legend Billy Beane – has been hit by delays with fears growing that it may be on the verge of striking out.
Sportsmail revealed in August that the Championship club were in advanced discussions with a Chinese-American consortium featuring Nice's billionaire majority shareholder Chien Lee and American businessman Paul Conway.
The planned takeover at Oakwell was expected to be concluded in September, but no announcement has been forthcoming and it is understood that the deal is close to collapsing.
Sources disclosed that no contact has been forthcoming for the group since proof of funds were asked for around two weeks ago.
