Motherwell beat Hamilton to take fourth spot

Motherwell gave Accies a goal of a start before going on to win 2-1 with goals from Rose and Hartley. A move to fourth in the table is the perfect preparation for Hampden trip next week.

Dreadful match but a huge three points. That was always going to be a battle and so it proved but we did just enough in the end. We need to work on our ball retention a bit as well as our defending but we're moving in the right direction.

We will need a much better performance next Sunday if we are to stand any chance of winning.

The only thing that mattered today was the result. That awful pitch reduces all games to a lottery and we can be delighted that we came away with three points. We can get back to proper football on Sunday :-)

Yet another impressive attendance 3,869 (2,138 away fans)

We had a bit more than the Accies today; we deserved to win.
The turnout of our fans was outstanding - but where were the Accies fans in their club's hour of need?
And it may be wishful thinking, but the number of women 'Well fans seems to me to be growing, as does the number of parents who are bringing the weans to the fitba'. I hope I'm right.

A hard fought match on a dire pitch but we deserved the 3 points. Its a game we could well have lost last season. Once again the team showed character and spirit to come back from a goal down. Defensively we weren't quite as solid as we usually are and there are a number of reasons for that. Certainly Accies know how to play their pitch, and it was noticeable how often their strikers didn't challenge for the first ball but instead waited for our defenders to be deceived by an erratic bounce and make an error. They were nothing if not streetwise.

A good away support backed the team from start to finish.

    Tremendous win.

Not too fussed about how we got there but the attitude is first rate...how easy would it have been to be out fought by a local rival while using the pitch and semi-final as an excuse? Even when a goal down I really didn't think we'd lose (might not win mind) and it's been a long, long time since a Motherwell team has given that feeling.

    Onwards to Hampden...
