    Living in the past

Not wolves Jethro Tull. Saw them at B'ham Town hall in 1969. Doodling on my guitar found myself playing this riff.

Brilliant! Coincidentally over the last couple of days I have been 'talking' to an old work friend and telling about early Tull. I sent them this yesterday. And today I sent Song for Jeffrey and Nothing is Easy. She was impressed

I meant to say that I first saw Tull by chance in 1970. I was really surprised by how good they were and I saw them again later that year at Birmingham Town Hall. Ian Anderson- what a showman!

And the sixties. So lucky to have been a ****ager then.

Back to the sixties. I have been watching the excellent but pretty harrowing BBC4 series The Vietnam War. It was accompanied by a lot of the familiar music from that time. But this week I was shocked to hear an Otis Redding song that I had forgotten about and maybe not heard since I was at school

    Word of advice please Soulman.

Coming up to my 66th birthday in December and Xmas of course after that. Love my music, especially guitar riffs and music. Is it too late to start to try and doodle a bit on the guitar? No arthritis in my fingers and appreciate that it will need practice and some dedication but would you suggest it is never to late to give it a go?

If so is it easier to learn acoustic or electric? Any advice/suggestions greatly appreciated. Also would help family with birthday/Xmas gift as they say I am impossible to buy for!!! Thanks.

Hi i found it easier to learn on a electric guitar. If i can learn anyone can,i've got damaged hands work related and karate.
You are never too old to learn a mate of mine aged 70 has started to learn the keyboard ,another mate has took up the saxophone.
I learnt to play off You -Tube. Don't give up, a lot is muscle memory, learn a chord keep holding it you don't even after strum.
Practice a lot, my fingers bleed after a couple of weeks till my fingers got hard.
Check out Justin Guitar on You Tube, there's some great teachers on there.

Thanks Soulman. Glad you said that about an electric guitar as that is the sound I prefer but didn’t know if it would be too difficult. Going to give it a good think over the next few weeks and have a look at the local music shop as well.
    Thanks again.
