It really doesn't matter who is brought in. The viral infection runs past the manager and is in the ownership, boardroom, training staff, players and at every level. Even the support is having the wind taken out of the sails.

Any manager will last as long as ST can get a few points together, he will come in and inspire for a short time, the viral malaise will return, the old problems persist and he (or she) will get sacked. A fall guy for an ST Infection or if you will an ST Disease or STD for short.......

Given that any new manager will only be a short term measure why not try a totally out the box appointment. Give the opportunity to an unknown managing a non league side or Div 2 team. Get a fourth division manager from Europe and give them the incentive to succeed.

ST is the virus. The club is infected. ST needs to go.......

Its good to read loyalty abounds within uniteds shrinking fan base.
You might think that the manager isnt doing a good job and you might talk about it with friends you might feel depressed about being DOON but to come on a public forum and unleash the above venom is revealing.
    What a shower.

Seriously worried that it doesn't really matter who is going to be boss. Any manager will be the meat in the sandwich between an incompetent chairman and a squad of players lacking in fitness, skill, strength and commitment. As usual it's the manager who takes the hit. Annoys me how players always get off scot free. They are never held to account. They are meant to be 'professionals' but their individual and collective performances this season have fallen woefully short of any acceptable professional standard. Good luck to whoever the new manager might be. They'll need it!

You just back from Firhill Baldrick? The big team in the city helping out the Jags, that was nice.

Why don't you nip back over to Fun mad and talk about how good things are at Dense, and not worry yourself about the wee team.

After all, 2 wins in 10, it's heady days for the Fun.....looks like the "Pundit" is away to lead you to the heady heights you deserve....

Focus needs to be more on playing staff than manager options. Current development squad to become first team squad for rest of the season. Hungrier players looking to prove they have a future in the game is a better starting point than continuing with others who are comfortable to coast through their contracts. Too radical? Risky? Or an opportunity for improvement?

Aye but surely it's up to the manager to make these players fitter, work on their skills, strength & conditioning and to motivate them to the point that they are giving 100% and are fully committed, no? Ray clearly isn't & can't do this. If these players are giving 100%, then that is also Ray's fault as he's signed a bunch of useless ****s who simply aren't good enough.

Agree that Ray has not achieved as expected. No problem with that. He will suffer the consequences. The players have not achieved as expected. They'll turn out again, perform to the same low standard that has been evident all season with no threat to their pay day. Yes, this reflects on the manager but players need to be held to account and need to accept some personal responsibility.

Yesterday, everything was lacking and for a short time I was even praying alone would chuck it...... the only time we even looked close to scoring from anything other than a free kick etc was when Durnan was moved up front as a target man, even then we couldn't get crosses near to him. Its kind of like the players want McKinnon gone.

The most damning thing for McKinnon yesterday was there was no reaction by the players 2nd half, I dont think they intentionally downed tools, i just think it was a subconscious reaction to having all the belief sucked out of them, when basically getting sent out 2nd half knowing the tactics/sytsem as at Livi wasnt working and just being asked to do the same thing again.

Obviously there are bigger issues at the club, namely having a chairman out his depth, but the mess on the park is primarily the problem of the manager who has been given a adequate budget but produced 5-6 atrocious performances and results with it already.

People keep saying we have a squad on paper that should walk this league - but the team is the sum of the parts, and we have is a flawed squad lacking height/strength, a target man, full-backs to play the way the manager wants us to, a plan B; we might have some of the best individuals but just about every team we play seems to be a better unit/team. That is all McKinnon's fault. It's a shame because nobody wanted Ray to fail but he has been a bad appointment.

Of course the chairman is guilty, made a song and dance about the mistakes he had made when we got relegated and lessons that had been learned, then about thirty seconds later rushed into the appointment of McKinnon without fully sourcing who was available and interested. And of course the club has no recruitment strategy to aid the manager beyond letting him get on with it, god knows what happens to the director of scouting role or whatever it was that McKinnon created about 6 months ago. Did Thomson even check to see at the time if McKinnon had contacts that he could source out players? Our only hope is he flukes a good appointment next, because that's what it will likely be if he gets it right, though we will prob get a quick and uninspired appointment.

That was feking awful yesterday, possibly the worst yet, although a few contenders for that. And yir right justaway, zero reaction from the players second half says it all . A damning inditement of Ray's management of the squad I am afraid. This season under Ray has been one of the worst ever in my 40+ years of following United.

I was leaning towards Mac90 and Dodds but this is not seeming popular on here and elsewhere so I suppose maybe Danny Lennon might be a possible. A couple of negatives , you know, in that he is extremely, you know, Weegie and constantly says you know what . I could get over this though. Treated very poorly by St Murn and would be an interesting scenario there . We shall see, one things for sure Thompson better get this one right.
