I thought it was Tuesday today - I was just sitting down to watch the 3pm kick-off in the Caribou Cup v Mansfield?

Sid - Stop nit-picking, it doesn't suit your style of being the intellectual maestro on here......it's twice you've done it already today....you picked me up earlier for posting "Guardian headline I agree with", which I do......you then say "it's just a headline"?.......yes Sid, one I agree with.

Yes how dare the Guardian ask for voluntary contributions to readers of its website. What it should do instead is to publish covertly gained photos of female celebrities and their daughters in their bikinis with captions such as “look at who’s all grown up”. Then they could watch the clicks and thus the advertising revenue roll in.

Maybe they could also be taken over by a non dom who pays no tax in this country and then claim how patriotic they are. They’d never have to bother their readers for money again!

Like many sandal wearing, placard carrying, unwashed, intellectual, professional envious drop outs and failures who haven't learned how to work to make a living - this also typifies the difference in business acumen between two national newspapers. One knows how to make money ( isn't this the core nature of business?) the other begs for it.

No, it’s one organisation with morals and one with none, whilst at the same time lecturing everyone else.

A bit like me and you Grandad.

[QUOTE=tarquinbeech;38685778]Sorry Sidders - Cannot let that comment go without a rebuttal

To read the Guardian, which I had never ever done in my life until you advised me to give it a shot, is to see the world from a completely lop-sided viewpoint.

You don't need a high standard of intellect to know that almost every single editorial is tinged with the most Left-leaning brand of Socialism, and every single Political piece or World story, is couched in terms of how much better the country/world would be if a Socialist Government was in power......and led by women.

Yesterday they ran pieces on an area of India controlled by women, to stop rapes and ***ual harassment plus another about possible "pink buses" in London for female-only passengers.

Today they are running TWO anti-Trump headlines, a story on Transgender issues, re-hashing the Polanski rape allegations from 1975, a story on homelessness, and the ongoing Brexit saga.

The Opinion pieces are, Corbyn is the real "grown-up" in Brexit (I choked on my morning crumpet), Toxic masculinity, broken Capitalism, and Blacks not getting into Oxbridge.......Gawd give me strength.
I'm reading it because it's free....but you don't need an intellect to know this is not a real view of the World.[/Q

Precisely ........ a paper for people who think they're Intellectuals ....... but in real life have been failures and achieved very little, never taken a real gamble and in all probability have been kept by the State all their working life.

Is actually what it says. I agree with that. Erm, I mean I agree with what he said, not that he said it.
This is probably the best reply so far.
That minister isn't saying anything surprising though, community service is hardly going to cut it with those guys. But better he hadn't said it at all. Nobody's scared, but headlines like that are only going to increase the likelihood of murderous reprisals in places like our shopping centres - more soft targets, rather than high-security ministries and govt buildings.

It says nothing about the guardian btw, the times got there first reporting it anyway

Congratulations seriouspie - that is officially the 100th time this year you have posted that stereotype.

I suppose it keeps you happy believing it, even though it's miles from the truth.

The way that I read the Guardian is simple......if the article reads "Brexit talks stalemate".....then I assume that TM is probably making some progress.
If it reads "Brexit talks failure".....then it's probably a stalemate and the UK told Barnier where to stick his demands for pie-in-the-sky FIAT currency.

Same with politics....."TM caves into pressure on Universal Credit" = Tories rethink roll-out plans.....*** scandals, "Weinstein scandal as more actresses come forward" = More multi-millionaire actresses jostle to hog the limelight despite keeping silent for 20 or 30 years.

I'm not a fan of Trump, but have they ever tried to find a different angle....surely he must be doing something right?.......anything?

To me it's not "proper" news unless there is a bit of balance.

Hello once more Flabbo - "A little like you and I Grandad" sounds more correct and polite English. Never mind ... it's not your fault, you are after all a Guardian reader with intellect.

    Regards - Gramps.

What you read, Tarquin, is an online digest NOT the Guardian newspaper. If you actually read the whole thing you would see, for example, a piece by Bannon in defence of Trump. The Guardian often commissions pieces from writers with opinions differing to their editorial. Does the Mail (for example) ever do this?
The Guardian is a left of centre newspaper. It openly says so but it's owned by an independent media group. The Mail, the Torygraph, the ***press, The Times are all owned by right wing concerns.
Would you like the right to own every channel of news media?
As for you, Serious, allow me to dig out a saying from your heyday: "Money is the root of all evil". Or have you forgotten that the Mail has a long history of supporting fascists?
