    40 Years Today

SInce that famous October night in 1977 when Queens thrashed Dundee 6-0 at Palmerston in the League Cup. A game that's still talked about among those Qos fans of a certain vintage. Queens were fired up after Gordon Strachan's comments about not even knowing where Dumfries was and we even came out to the 'Dad's Army ' tune at Dens Park . This being a little dig at of the age of our team. Anyway , Queens in brilliant white , destroyed Dundee after a first leg 0-0 draw to set up a meeting with Hibs.

One of the greatest games ever under the lights at Palmy - scoring went Reid, Chopper Dickson, Dempster, Peter Dickson, Chopper Dickson, Reid. They may have had a wee dig at the age of our team by playing the Dad's Army theme tune at Dens Park but to misquote Corporal Jones '' they didn't like it up 'em. '' - a never to be forgotten night !

Maybe this should be in the "regrets" section BUT I missed this game - hitched up to Dundee from London to see match with a Dundee mate and decided that after watching a pretty woeful 0-0 game at Dens didn't bother making the effort for the return game. DOH......

I remember it very, very well. My uncle was visiting from Wales and he drove us to what was his first Queens match. 40 years later he's still talking about it!!

    Team that famous night was:-

Bally, Ches, O'Hara, McLaren, Nobby and Boyd, Jocky, P. Dickson, Hood, Reid, Chopper
subs Balderstone and Bryce (mark 1)
O'Hara and Balderstone have sadly since passed away.

This was Oct 77. Two months later in Dec , Queens won away in the league but didn't win another one until a whole 21 months later ! ps just thought I'd throw that fact in lads as the date reminded me of it.

What a night, one of my favourite Queens games of all time.
I remember it so vividly its hard to believe it was 40 years ago.
I was just a 14 year old lad then.
Still got the programme as well (somewhere)
