It’s a real pity we can’t bring hanging back outside the gates of the White Tower for anti British comments. I have always respected the Monachy and the wonderful history of our country. You should carry on playing on your X box, drinking your strong lager and cashing your benefit cheque tomorrow that hard working true Englishman pay for.
Little sad people like you will always be in the minority or a member of Momentum.
I'm amazed you're not sure of the expression 'Conchie' - it was the abbreviated form of Conscientious Objector. Briefly these people registered to not serve in the armed forces on account of their moral or religious beliefs not fight in a military action. Instead they had to serve the welfare of the nation i.e. in the Red Cross, or if they did go into the forces, it would be non combatant in something like the Catering Corps. I think this situation still exists today but years ago many were ridiculed and despised especially by the families who's menfolk had joined up and lost their lives.
Yes CG was a great local guy and served Newark all his life. As you say, a good enough batsman to play his first game for Notts CCC against the touring Ausralians and score 50 I believe. He captained Newark at cricket, became Mayor, a leading freemason, took several leading roles with the Newark Operatic Society, had a sports shop with another Old Magnusian - Stan Green - and would read out the names of those Newarkers who perished in WW2 at the Remembrance day services. As you say, Gentleman Chris had no 'edge' and never forced his beliefs on anyone. Actually Sid, when you once criticised the school, it saddened me. It was a fine Grammar school and know for a fact that many kids who's parents had nothing, were given a good education at the school and went on to create a fine life for themselves - one of the most recent of course being Nigel Doughty who before his death owned Forest.
Eh up son, I'm missing Holby, so cheers until the next confrontation we have!
