Ah yes the Spunk Box error, censorship gone awry. Man are and always will be my favourite band, Deke RIP my favourite musician.

I don't have any six degrees of separation stories about Man, but I do have my devotion to Deke to thank for avoiding a beating. Back in 76 I passed on mate a's suggestion of The Jam at The King's Hall in favour of mate b's suggestion of Deke Leonard's Iceberg at Burton 76 Club. Deke was fantastic and my afterparty was a Watney's bender at mate b's place. The Jam played for 38 minutes and mate b and his bro's evening (and following week) ended in the DRI after a run in with a pack of teds

None so far today but yesterday I was out at a mini dayer in Amsterdam from 1200 to 1700. A packed out Akhnaton with some locals and a load of folk on a soul cruise out of Hull. Motown, Northern Soul and R&B from the 60s and 70s. Danced me little legs off and giving them a well earned rest today.

Glad you enjoyed it MA although it would be my idea of hell - Northern Soul and people from Hull!

Boat was out of Hull but the majority were from Lancashire although there was a smattering of Leeds, Doncaster and...... the two smashing ladies who run the Derby Soul Club. Gave them my card..... might get an invitation to do a set.

I can't comment on folk from Hull but I love Northern Soul, as a late ****ager I was junior member of a pack of twenty-something soulboys who did thursday night/friday night/saturday night/sunday afternoon/monday night (The Tudor Court, now demolished and on my current dog-walking route was a particular highlight)and innocent country bumpkin me couldn't understand why they could always outlast me by a number of hours despite them being dancers and me not. Only many years later when reunited with one of the posse (the one who took me to the Deke Leonard gig, see above) was I enlightened. The answer: speed, bagloads of 'em. I had absolutely no idea....

Listened to loads of songs. Picking the top 3 was a hard ask.

    1. No one like you - Scorpions

    2. The Glamorous Life - Sheila E.

    3. Smoke on the water - Deep Purple

    3. Mega. Always wished I was cool enough to have a nickname like 'Funky Claude', if not a surname like Nobs.
