There's a youtube of a top of the pops edition where the lead singer here, Tony Burrows, sings this little ditty, 'Gimme Dat Ding' as part of studio-only band Pipkins and 'My Baby Loves Lovin' by another studio only band, White Plains, within fif**** minutes
These songs sounds vaguely familiar, I'm pretty sure my mom did listen or go watch one of them. Something stirred my memory, just can't place it. But whatever, it's good memories.
Surprisingly my mom wasn't really into Love Grows, I guess she was kinda blushing having her name in a song with people singing. She wasn't someone who desired attention of the kind.

    Currently listening to:

Mark Morrison - Return Of The Mack.

Ah, Mark Morrison, seldom has someone f***ed up a career like Mark. I'm not not going into the gory details, check it out on wikipedia, nuff said. But unlike most, he does have a legacy, and its this one, IMO fantastic, piece of music

Return of the Mack. Just listened to it again after ages.
Not really into it. Of course I can listen to it and won't mind, but not something to get the pulses racing.

Anyway question for you 'oldies' - 1 of my all time faves is Sealed with a Kiss.
Sung by both Brian Hyland and Bobby Vinton. Which you think is better or which you prefer?
I actually first heard the Vinton version growing up and became so used to it, then of course with things like youtube, I got the Hyland version. Now I can't decide between them. Some days lean Vinton others Hyland.

For me it's Brian Hyland. Bobby Vinton's version comes later and emphasises his stickability! Whilst many of the late 50's American stars wilted under the British invasion led by The Beatles, Vinton continued to have recording success into and beyond the '70's. During the late 50's and early 60's the yanks (male and female) dominated the pop scene on both sides of the Atlantic but many very successful ones fell by the wayside unable to change genres from 'bubblegum' pop to the new sound led by the Brits !!
Personally, I liked the late 50's and early 60's from both yanks and Brits and, of course, loved the 'new sounds' created by the Beatles and their contempories from the moment 'Love Me Do' was released!!

I claim no great skill as a hit-picker, but that's one of only two songs I ever heard that, on first hearing, I thought 'that's going to be number 1'. the other was Tubeway Army - Are 'Friends' Electric?

    Most recently listened to:

Johnny Restivo - 'The Shape I'm In', a one-hit wonder record that was barely even a hit (hot 100 but stalled at the upper reaches as I recall), but a song that seems to still resonate in the rock'n'roll community, I hear it a lot at club events and weekenders

Yes Ya Ya is atrocious. After his one hit Johnny survived for two decades in music firstly by tagging along with Frankie Avalon, then with a TV show, then working the cabaret club/casino/cruise circuits, before retiring from music to sell beds! Long dead now I believe, one of my rock'n'roll pals tried to book him for a weekender until he discovered that....
