You have got to do your apprentice time first IDWT, which means dislodging old faithful's that get the nod because of past caps, a name, a top Club player, or a brown nose, like the likes of a Beckham or Rooney.

I'll give Southgate a plus for trying out Loftus-Cheek, although the downside for me was fielding Livermore, Maguire and Abraham.

Vardy - what apprenticeship did he do ?

I like the look of Abraham, he looks to me like he could be a good one for the future, Southgate certainly bears testament to that!

To be fair the future is looking brighter for England, we seem to have waves of good youngsters coming through. Even that ragbag team we fielded against Germany showed a lot more ability than many England teams of recent years. Even the missus, who doesn't watch that much football noticed, she said they actually looked like they'd played together before and not a bunch of complete strangers, not something she often saw with England.

Of course I agreed. I always do, I've learnt over many years that in the long run it's better that way.

True enough ID, but as the missus points out, very often you'd never think so. I could apply this to many Burnley teams over the years as well. I wish I'd a fiver for every time I've said, 'WTF do they do all week down Gawthorpe'. But not these days of course, not with Sean in charge.

It took Tom three full seasons of heroics before he got the call, Pope has no chance in the immediate future.

how did Pope perform when he came on for Tom having not played a PL game before-

My money would be on him rather than on a rookie lad, not played a PL game that Mr PBO brought thru the young england ranks
