I don't know where you get your information from mate but the bonnie prince spoke English and broad Scots.This thread will shortly be closed but can i just point out it was never meant to be political,i was merely pointing out that a country separated from Great Britian by the Irish sea will not be singing the English national anthem in Russia this summer.

I stand corrected by my good old Gunboat friend. Yes indeed, according to some researchers and contemporary accounts, Chic 'spoke English and Broad Scots very well,' though heavily accented and unintelligible to some. Perhaps a bit like 'Dundonian?' After all, when the Duke of Atholl finished his address at Glenfinnan and Charlie said 'Ah hink its aboot time fur a cup a' teh an' a peh,' would this have come across to the gathered clansmen as being a) heavily accented, b) unintelligible, c) good English, d) Broad Scots, or e) foreign, etc? Remember, there were no Funsters or taxi drehvers around back then to help them out!

It certainly seems that Charlie's communication skills, or lack of, have found their way to the upper halls of Tannadice, where yet again a cause has foundered due to lack of finance, or the funds being appropriated for matters unrelated to supporting the front-line troops?
