Been looking forward to it for weeks.
I know there are some posters on here who are also fans of this drama so a heads up that it is back on BBC 2 tonight at 9pm.
Been looking forward to it for weeks.
What a first episode
Brilliant
They're behind the hay bales....
Too late. ⚰⚰
Top production, love the lighting, the grit, the realism, the moodiness, the fact that for a TV drama its like watching a full bodied feature film. The best!
This series is a series too far, the storyline is ludicrous. Why do they keep on flogging dead horses? It should have finished on a high of the previous series.
I enjoyed it even if some of the accents still a grate a little. I noticed great efforts had been taken to give it some authenticity with regular references to actual places and areas. But on one of the black hand envelopes it spelt Harborne with a 'u'. Tut tut.
How do we know what the accent was like in 1925, it could have changed. Also the spelling of town names have also changed. Having said that you must be very observant to notice the spelling on an envelope.
We don't know precisely what it was like but as dialects only change gradually I doubt it was much different. I grew up near Harborne and have never seen it spelt with a 'u'. As Bourne Brook runs very nearby and Bournville is not far away, it may once have had one. When the black hand envelopes were in shot I just rewound and paused out of interest. Tommy's large house is supposed to be in Warwick. I may be a bit of an anorak regarding the place name spelling but I will never get used to the accents. Cheers abbobrom.
I like the bit where one of the Peaky's deliberately falls down the trap door in the pub cellar, and tries to claim some compensation for it. Ohh wait a mo, I think Im confusing this with an episode of Uncle Albert on Only Fools lol.
I think the Peaky's & Ripper Street are two cracking dramas on the Beeb and I hope that the Peaky's doesnt carry on for too long, its a shame when a good show carries on way too long and fans get put off by the end etc. Also these shows need a good 'baddie' and for me Sam Neill was very good to begin with in the first few series (and I think he also did a very good N.Ireland accent), and I was disappointed to see them kill him off and how/who killed him off.
