Why opportunists?
I never knew the Labour Party were building diesels.
Apparently Gordon Brown helped a lot of us to choose a "greener" car by telling us they were not as polluting as petrol.
He knew all along that they WERE much more polluting but thought penalising the drivers would not go down well with the voters. This "Dash for Diesel" started in 2001 and was pushed even more in following years.
At the time only one in seven cars was a diesel. Now, as a result of the Labour policy, it is one in two.
So when they tell you about their green credentials just don't believe them. They are opportunists.

Fisker Claims To Have A Battery With A Range Of 500 Miles And Can Be Charged In 1 Minute
HUFFPOST UK STYLE BLOG 9 hrs ago
Electric car company Fisker has filed a patent for a revolutionary new solid-state battery that would allow its cars to be charged in as little as a minute and even travel as far as 500 miles on a single charge. The company might not have the scale and reach as Tesla but Henrik Fisker’s automotive company is looking to become a major competitor in the growing market of electric cars. One of the biggest hurdles facing electric vehicles has been the current battery technology that we use.Lithium-ion batteries are easy to manufacturer and can be found in everything from the Tesla Model S to your iPhone. The problem is that they’re an old technology and despite regular advancements they struggle to provide the range and charging times needed for electric cars to finally compete with combustion engines.Whereas a normal petrol or diesel car takes just a few minutes to fill up, even Tesla’s Supercharger takes at least 30 minutes to give you over 200 miles of range.Solid-state batteries have the potential to overcome these problems and Fisker believes it has cracked them.According to Green Car Congress - and also then later confirmed on Twitter by Fisker himself - the company will show its first working prototype of this new battery technology in January at CES 2018, Las Vegas.Check out: Fisker has filed patents for solid-state batteries - Autoblog https://t.co/A0TNoN2JqE via @therealautoblog Alongside the new battery the company will also show a near-production ready version of its brand-new all-electric saloon car the Fisker EMotion. This will be Fisker’s first big play in the all-electric industry and the company is already making bold claims of a 400-mile range and the ability to get 125 miles of range from just 9 minutes of charging. For the moment the EMotion will use the same lithium-ion technology found in other electric vehicles but Fisker is hoping to have its solid-state technology appearing in production cars as soon as 2023.This would certainly be in keeping with a recent report made by the Dutch bank ING which has predicted that electric cars will be able to better the range of combustion vehicles as soon as 2020.
THIS IS THE WAY FORWARD
Want one!
Those dastardly Tories allowed the sale and use of Thalidomide, a widely used drug in the late 1950s and early 1960s for the treatment of nausea in pregnant women. It became apparent in the 1960s that thalidomide treatment resulted in severe birth defects in thousands of children. Bit harsh to blame Anthony Eden though?
I want one too!
BT, the point is that Gordon Brown introduced new taxes on vehicle emissions. Even though he was well aware that diesels were more polluting, he made the case that they were "greener" than petrol cars and adjusted the taxes to match.
It now transpires that he did this because it would have been politically damaging to tax diesel cars on their emissions. (Read the article in the OP)
The result? Every other car on our roads is now a dirty diesel (including mine!)
The Labour party claim to have green credentials. Judge them by what they do, not what they say.
Science always discovers a new theory which superseded the last. I recently bought a new diesel and the Renault stickers on the back window lead me to believe I am a green god!
Bit harsh to blame the Tories too. I’m sure some Labour Supporters fathered children too.
Thalidomide was developed in Germany and used there from 1956. Of 10000 victims half were in West Germany. It was withdrawn in Britain in 1961. However it is still used today and is perfectly safe - provided you are not pregnant or likely to become so. If you get leprosy you may be grateful if it stops your body parts falling off.
My Merc is a diesel, and it just escaped being a 2006, when I got it in 2008 I said it would be the last one to take me to the grave, and it will be, phuck Governments with their ill judged, stupid statements, corrupt data and decisions made for favours, friends and being made to look good while shafting the general public at every turn. . . . . . PHUCK EM
