O/T Petrol and diesel is finished....at last

A fascinating night at the live Tesla launch.......the new Tesla semitruck.....500 miles on a single charge, 0 to 60 mph in 5 seconds unloaded, 20 seconds with the maximum permitted USA payload of 80,000 lbs......65mph up a 5% hill without slowing....impossible to jackknife because it has 4 independent motors, nuclear blastproof glass, 1 million miles no-breakdown guarantee, lifetime warranty on the brakes and self-driving on autopilot

.....then the fun started, shock from the crowd and a stunned silence (I had a feeling that Elon wasn't finished because he looked so excited)

quote "we've decided to kill off the petrol cars......when you've seen this, and driven this....why you ever go back to a petrol engine".

The new 4-seater roadster....0 to 60 in under 2 seconds....620 miles on a single charge......250 mph top speed (he looked embarrassed)

    Wow, wow, wow.

The roadster is shown near the end of these highlights...trucks first

    Unfortunately:

1: Lack Of charging points worldwide

2: Loss of jobs in oil and petrol industries.

3: How do you think electricity is produced?

4: The cost of electric cars immediately prices most people out of the market.

5: The silent approach of these vehicles is deadly. Many people, and not just the elderly, listen before they look when crossing the road. Of course we could have somebody walking in front, waving a red flag and papping a hooter.

I love creeping up on folks in Tesco and Sainsbury's car parks in my Prius.

Hundreds and thousands of charging stations are being built every week.......powered by Solar....once the solar panels are up, it's practically unlimited free power.....the new Electric Highway is being built across Europe......hundreds of thousands of new jobs being created, and more in the future, converting gas stations to electric charging points.

The price of EVs is comparable with petrol already and as every single manufacturer now has EV models being built, the prices will drop further....add in free solar power from your garage roof at home, or charging points at work...it's a no-brainer IMO.

The new Solar Roadway in Korea......AWESOME....the sky's the limit....literally

.....then we go one stage further

(a)......all glass products in buildings and cars, feeds power back into the Grid or your car battery

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZ__PjmC6Fg

    (b) ....every roofing product will collect the sun's energy and either feed back into the grid or your own home's Powerwall (a wall of batteries built into the building)

Elon Musk explains again....all this technology is already there and it's growing exponentially

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sfwDyiPTdU

    (c) Once every car is a mobile battery, every roof and glass window is collecting power and storing it, every home has a Powerwall.....there is no need for traditional Power Stations.

Quite simply, your roof feeds my car, my windows feed your Powerwall, the office blocks feed the electric trams and buses.....everything is already connected but now the power is effectively free......all the "spare" free power goes around and around in a continual "free" loop......all we need to do is maintain the system and keep adding to it to make it stronger.

It is a frightening new World that we have suddenly discovered.

You really are a joke, Beechy. You hate the EU with a passion and champion the spread of electric vehicles. Can you not see how EU togetherness would spread this cause exponentially whereas separately it will be a bumpy and protracted ride?

I don't hate Europe, or the future trading relationship we will have......just the domination of a non-elected institution over our own Laws and Practices.

Tesla are not part of the EU, but they have charging stations all over Europe, sell plenty of cars there and Powerwalls as well.

A simple analogy would be Notts signing a Partnership deal with Forest (something that nobody on here would like) .....or simply borrowing a few players from time to time like Yates and Grant.......in the former we effectively become their B team, the latter we keep our autonomy and pride, but cooperate occasionally.

You'd better start shipping it over from Mexico then because there's been precious little sun here today, dark by 4pm and don't expect too much till after 9am tomorrow.

And somehow you've missed out the requirements of industry, but never mind, no-one's going anywhere 'cause their cars won't go, and if they do they'll run out of battery with their lights and heating - oh scrub that, not enough power for heating.

A very frightening new World indeed.

(Note to self - look up Lithium production and disposal).

Don't worry about clouds - I saw a video way back in the mid 80's where Kate Bush and Donald Sutherland had invented a machine that zaps them. Hope they've still got it.

They knew that something good was gonna happen.
