    It's not. You get a lot for your money up here, so folk like me can live mortgage and rent free and spend our cash on other stuff, like ale, meals out, nice holidays and er, yoghurt. Thanks to Thatcher and her ilk there were a lot of empty mills and factories that have been turned into nice flats, shops, pubs and restaurants and most pits and their environs are now reclaimed land or leisure areas. I lived in and around London for 14 years and worked there for over 20 and was glad to get away. You can keep the South East but please, keep on telling folk how grim it is up here so they all stay down there.

    Cannot disagree with you Griff about how cheap life is up North. Years ago I used to go to Newcastle often and I loved it up there. Seriously thought about buying a new house but didn't in the end. There are parts of London that I would not want to live in, some close by.
