    £300m bid for Newcastle

    BBC Report

A financial firm headed by British businesswoman Amanda Staveley has tabled a formal takeover bid in the region of £300m for Newcastle United.

PCP Capital Partners has been in talks with club owner Mike Ashley for about a month, and a source close to the deal said an offer has now been made.

Newcastle are yet to comment publicly on the news, although a club source has disputed the value of the bid.

alf --get real ---we a re not even wearing t-shirts up here at the moment --it is that warm.
We don't possess coats and gloves, even the ladies just wear t-shirts and pelmets when they go out --why do you think I moved up here? lol
Got to laugh though because the Geordies think that a massive takeover will be ideal for the club and yet, they have never appreciated the fact that without Ashley pouring money into the club they would have been down the pan quite some time ago.

I remember about 30 years ago going to watch an ice hockey game, Whitley Bay Warriors v Streatham Redskins. We were well wrapped up, gloves, scarves etc and still shivering, half the rink were sat there in jeans and t-shirts and just didn't seem to notice the cold. A different breed up there.

....might be a novelty for the backer (middle/far east?) to wear an overcoat and gloves.

There was also uncertainty about where the funding to buy a Premier League football club is exactly coming from. It is thought that it will be Staveley and Far East investors....

I was talking to a Ukrainian not long ago, he said he'd once spent six months in Newcastle. I said it was bloody cold up there, he just said 'Where I come from it's minus 30 in winter'. That was the end of that conversation.

For what its worth Craig Bellamy said on Sky last night that now is the time for someone to take over Newcastle United while the current Manager is there and bring them up to where they should be, (Well I thought it was a funny comment) :

Ashley reportedly dropped the asking price to £380m in an attempt to complete a sale by the end of the year.
So the bid is a bit low - given he paid £135M for it, he won’t make a loss. - pity!

Amanda Staveley's proposed takeover of Newcastle United has been further complicated by the demand for a compensation fee if the club are relegated from the Premier League this season.
With Ashley not supporting any January purchasing the new prospective owner wants reassurance
