ST probably didn’t want the boy charged as once he’d calmed down he realised (again) that he is a bit of a dick.

The Police’s hands are now tied, if a matter is reported to them that is a ‘crime’ it has to be investigated regardless of the victim’s wishes. It’s to protect vulnerable victims from being bullied/intimidated into retracting their complaint.

I can only assume ST was the first to contact them so rightly or wrongly he becomes the ‘victim’

The police were offered to look at the guys phone to prove he was not filming ST (even if he had been it would not be illegal and no need for ST to react like a dick). The police were not at all interested. Seemed to me they enjoyed the reflected fame of bum licking ST.

You were very accurate with your initial observation's of this incident,i am glad that this guy can get on with his chosen career path now that the the shadow of Thompson has been removed from his life,unfortunately for thousand's of others he is still very much part of our's,FACT.

Was directly involved in this and charges should never have been brought. ST thought he was being filmed (he was not). ST reacted aggressively to this and ended up on his ass. Police preferred his account to the other guy and he was charged. Procurator Fiscal finally seen sense (perhaps because the only real witness was ST's wife and not sure she is that happy with him these days......)

Common sense has finally prevailed.

ST or someone else 'must' have made a complaint to the police about this matter, resulting in the investigation and subsequent reporting to the Procurator Fiscal for the consideration of a prosecution. Whilst in many cases, due to lack of evidence, or other considerations such as a minor matter or the wishes of the complainer/victim, etc., matters are often dealt with by means of advice, warning, etc., this was potentially a high profile case likely to receive media attention. It often happens in such circumstances, the police protect themselves from any potential criticism about lack of action by reporting the circumstances to the Procurator Fiscal for any decision about a prosecution. Nothing sinister about it at all. The Fiscal is always better to be primed as to what the other side of the coin (defence) is, in order to make the right decision.

The Police could be complainers in such circumstances, but considering the minor nature of the matter it would be unrealistic for them to progress matters without a formal complaint being made by ST or some other party. If everyone else was happy for the matter to be forgotten about, they are not going to make something out of nothing.
