    Referees boots

Ok, I know they would look a bit stupid in the latest £300 Nike/Puma/Adidas but why do they persist in wearing the same type of boots that me and my lad saw in Escape To Victory?

Next time, have a look. Long oversized white laces tied under basic black and white Adidas.

I wonder if they have to purchase their own boots or are they sponsored by Adidas? I know the players have contracts with various sports companies.

I also know that if you had have turned up on a Sunday morning, thirty years ago, for your weekend game, wearing yellow or orange boots you would have had the p.ss taken in no uncertain terms.

Mate, if I was a Premier League referee the fact I had to buy my own boots would be like me or you deciding on a Dyson or a Gmech. A slightly better hoover.

Check out the referee's boots in the West Ham game tonight.

Dixie Dean would have been proud.
