    A lucky charm

Is Paul downing a lucky charm?
We have not lost with him at the back and that is over 10 games
    Coincidence?I dont think so
I along with quite a few knew little about him and called it a rushed deal how wrong were we all.

He has been excellent, rarely puts a foot wrong. We really need to sign this guy as he is only on loan. While I like Lenihan, if we got him back fit and Sheff Utd came back in for him and where willing to pay £2m I would sell, and re-invest. Personally I don't where Lenihan comes back into this side, but we need the money.

I thought the exact same thought the emergence of downing has effectively knocked lenihan down the pecking order
Maybe used as a defensive midfielder but then again Smallwood plays that role exceptionally well
So what to do with lenihan?

The thing is, we now three excellent defensive midfielders: Smallwood, Mulgrew and Lenihan. Remember how recently it was that we were struggling to find one! The fact that two of them are also very good at centre-back is a bonus.
As for Downing, as Chuck Berry said, "It goes to show you never can tell."
I thought he was brought in as emergency cover, and that he would hardly ever get game-time.
Where has his form come from? I've looked back through his record, and - to be honest - he never seems to have been regarded as much more than so-so. Another of those football puzzles.
