For me McIness is a decent manager who gets teams playing steady to their potential but doesn't take them beyond that. He has taken over steady ships at St John and and Aberdeen, but I think most managers would have succeeded at these clubs, I'd say Tommy Wrights achievements are far more commendable.

Aberdeen have had the pick of the best of the rest after Celtic in the absence for one reason or another of Rangers, Hearts, Utd and Hibs, they have filled that vacum without challenging Celtic even when Deila was manager and celtic were woeful. The makings of the team were there under Pa Broon, the likes of Hayes, McGinn, Reynolds, and the majority of his signings seem proven established stars that any aspiring championship manager wannabe be would go for e.g. Rooney, Cristie, GMS, Stewart etc... I think even McNamara would have succeded in those circumstances, doesnt seem to spread his net too far or promote many youngsters, doesnt have a great record in big matches, and quite defensive a lot of the time also. Certainly not a bad manager, but i think he has been in the right place at the right time.
