    Well done, young Christopher.
I remember Mrs.Kukde - she was nice, and the 1st Indian lady I'd met. (I was corrected in an essay once when I spelt her as Mrs.Cookday
Other teachers I remember at Grove Lane Juniors were Miss Clark, Mr.Parry, Mr.Warburton, Mr.Jones.
Happy days, and Handsworth was a great place to grow up in them days.

You excelled at "oral" and PE I see Chris.

    Nudge,nudge,wink,wink!

Not so hot at needlework and fenceposts in those days though eh?

Strange way of marking though.....I was more of a B- man myself.

Mr.Parry boarded with us before getting his own place up Rookery Road way. Don't know the other names. Miss Wilkes was the headmistress. Mr. Philpot , Mr Tibbet, and Mr.Davies are names I remember plus Miss Aston & Miss Millington in the infants.I did pass the 11+ Q165, but have no record of it.

    I'm 5 years older than you, Young'un.
Miss Wilkes was headmistress and Miss Parsons HM at the Infants school. Both were nationally decorated for their dedicated work. (In late 50s there were NO immigrant kids, but by '66 they had welcomed the new influx and 90 percent were West Indian or Asian).
Mr.Jones would dedicate all his break time teaching the kids football skills. Don't know much about today's teachers, but they were really dedicated in those days. I bet they'd sigh if they'd known how I was going to turn out!

There were a lot of West Indian and Indian children in my year, about 40% I reckon. They were all decent kids. Mr. Davies was the football "coach", well he picked the team. He was okay, though he did drop me for one game! Just remembered another name: Mr Halford. The sod gave me the ruler across my hands for running in the corridor. Harsh but I didn't do it again!

Teachers could be flippin tyrants back in the day. During the 70s the teacher would wallop me between the shoulder blades and hit me across the knuckles with a ruler a number of times . During my time at Grammar school I was slippered across the backside as well as caned just for going out of school bounds at lunch times without permission. A bunch of sadists they were.
