Pretty much as WBA123 said, Zhang Yuning is popular over in China based on 2 things: -
He had a fantastic debut for China's national team, 2 goal & an assist against those giants of international football Trinadad & Tobago...
And he is one of very few Chinese players plying their trade in Europe.
Lai wanted him to help raise our profile in China & didn't take the money out of the transfer kitty, he probably won't be good enough for us (although he is still only 20 so time for him to come good) but with WB paying his wages he represents very little risk.
A Chinese club would not be penalised for paying silly money for him unlike they are now for foreign players so even if he doesn't make the grade we should still get the £8M back
