Surely Kevin Nolan now realises that Stead is long past his best and is a back up striker at best

Santa could help Stead this Christmas by giving him a pair of football boots and taking them roller-skates off him.

We need to get rid of Stead and bring some one in who can terrorise the opposition defence, not someone who spends more time on his backside than on his feet... Once he went off was the only time we looked capable of getting back into the game..

I would take Cummings from Forest who looks surplus to requirements at present!

Sorry to interrupt the puns, but going back to the subject of the thread, we need a good signing rather than a 'marquee' one. We thought Izale McLeod was a marquee signing but what we actually got was an incredible sulk whose best days had gone. I don't mind if we sign some relatively unknown young(ish) striker from the non-league if he's got the ability to score goals. Swindon Town first found the (then) unknown Charlie Austin at Poole Town and he became their marquee player. Time for our scouts to prove their worth.

Ideally yes, but these type of signings are few and far between and we seem to end up with the chaff - Canham, Scoffham etc.

I think our best option for an impact player would be to sign a young up and coming striker from higher up the leagues on loan. Someone like Tyler Walker or that type of player would be an excellent addition to partner Ameobi.

Yates and Grant have arguably been our best two players this season and another loan player of their quality would make a great difference along with the availability of Noble.

Loan players aren't ideal, especially if there's little chance of signing them but getting out of this league is key.

As ling as he brings a water-tight defense rather than yet another one flapping about in front of the opposition goal.
