What the Hell has Happened To Us?

Opinions sought ... and any sort of positivity welcomed. Personally, I'm kind of worried!

The hazy days of the cup final are gone. The honeymoon period with Robinson is well and truly over. We're back to being the relegation fodder that we've been for the few seasons

That's now only 2 points from a possible 21 in the last 7 games.
I know there are lots of excuses, excuses don't win you games.
This is the worst form of any team in the league.
A couple more results needing excuses & the road to relegation is a real possibility.

I really don't see us getting relegated - but it depends on the strikers signed in January.

We're actually not playing *that* much worse than when we were winning. We were not nearly as good as that good run suggested and we are not as bad as this bad run suggests now.

In autumn we were an average team who took advantage of fitness and form clicking together with an exceptional striker being at the top of his game. We rightly got tremendous credit for that.

Now, with fitness waning and star striker out, we're struggling. Mistakes are punished at the back and what few chances we are making get snatched.

But we are still working incredibly hard, we're (by and large) organized, are throwing ourselves into tackles like no tomorrow and the fans - in the ground - are staying with the team. If all that stays constant, we're on the route to survival in a league which is mediocre.

We need to not lose on Saturday, lick our wounds, sign some forwards, settle on a formation and come back refreshed in three weeks. We then have three winnable home games late January/early Feb which, all being well, we will take advantage of. That and a cup win over Accies will hopefully change the perspective once more.

SPL points should be our priority and had we been sat comfortably sat Top 6 a cup run financially rewarding but today the SPL and halt to our downward spiral/relegation our priority. Lets see if Robinson can turn it around and worthy of recent plaudits ... its been abysmal post cup final. Prefer a SPL win over Accies than cup

We need to survive on Saturday. Sheer effort and determination may save us. But we need a couple of strikers and a central defender pdq. I just watched the BBC highlights and reckon that Kipre may get a suspension as the season starts again in January.

Saturday’s game will depend on who wants it more,Accies will fight for everything and will play a physical game with the ball in the air more than on the deck. We have to be prepared to give our all and not make rash tackles in and around the box. We also need the players to be prepared to take shoots at goal and not constantly pass the buck to a team mate. Would even consider putting Moult on the bench just to play into the minds of the Accies staff and players that he could come on at any time.

Teams have now sussed us out and changes are required. As a foul was given against Kipre, indicating that the referee saw the tackle, I'm not sure he will get suspended. Again the BBC will have a big influence on that.

We need to avoid defeat on Saturday and to do a fiar bit of transfer wheeling and dealing next month. Too many players are simply not good enough. Fortunately though we do have a cushion over the bottom dwellers.

The last month has been a 'Perfect Storm' for us in terms of fixtures (Celtic twice, away to Hearts, Partick, Killie and Rangers) and several key players missing through injury.

That said our points return in that same time has been nowhere near good enough and we really should have been taking at least something in at least some of the away matches we've played. Without Moult in the side we are toothless and our entire final third play is totally ineffective. We did well to pick up so many points earlier in the season even when not playing well but our ball retention has been dreadful throughout the campaign yet we got away with it because we had an effective tactic of playing it over the top to a very good front man who could not only bag us goals but could hold up play and allowed us to build attacks.

There are some players in that team who just aren't good enough at this level, namely Fisher, Tanner and Rose and at least one of them should be moved on asap. Then you have Bowman who isn't a prolific scorer but has the ability to be a good foil for one, sadly we've lost the only one we had. That will need to be addressed in January.

As for Cedric Kipre? The more I see of him the more I'm inclined to think of him as the 'Central defensive Eliphas Shivute'. A player who in flashes shows something, has a cracking name and is a bit of a cult hero with the support, but in reality he is an absolute bombscare who is actually considerably out of his depth and costs us goals and points. Not what we need at this level and he is due at the very least a lengthy spell on the bench.

Finally our captain, Carl McHugh. He has been awful all season and is completely wasteful in possession. Not good enough.

I like Stephen Robinson and he's turned the club around in more ways than one this season, but starting from Saturday he has one massive month ahead of him.

We started the season with a bang, but you can't keep that kind of effort going in every game. I think burnout has now set in a little bit, that coupled with the fact our strikers aren't up to the job is our main problem just now. Last nights game was the perfect example. Tanner right through on goal early on missed a glorious chance, then fisher misses a header and Rangers go right up the park and make it 2 0. We need two Strikers come the window because what we have at the moment isn't good enough. Right now our season could go either way, win a couple we are back in the mix for top 6, another couple of defeats we will be dragged into a relegation fight again. It's now up to Robinson to unearth a couple of decent strikers or the second half of the season is going to make difficult viewing.
