Hi mate
I'll get back to you on this one
I asked this question to Soulman a couple of weeks ago out of genuine interest.
Top 5 guitar players and why?
Would be interested to hear your choice.
Hi mate
I'll get back to you on this one
Don't pretend to know anything technical about guitars/players ability. And i'll narrow it down to those i've seen/heard in the flesh
As Lars Ulrich calls him Ritchie F##king Blackmore.
As a kid my mates Dad taped Rising for me and the rest his history. The best of the lot. Writes great songs , plays great guitar. Over 70 now and still class.shame he disappeared with a mandolin or whatever for so long.

Gary Moore
Saw him many times and every time I stood there thinking WOW. And Black Rose is my favourite Lizzy album. Sadly missed . Picked this one just for the guitar tone alone. Enjoy

Tony Iommi
Plays with no fingertips ffs. Anybody wrote better riffs? Just how s##t would music be if he hadn't lived?
Picked this one IMO his best work.

Michael Shenker
Two words Rock Bottom from the best live album ever. Love UFO and still do. No UFO equals no Maiden simples.

Angus Young
Up til around 82 they were one of my favourite bands. Malcolm got all the assists but Angus scored all the goals. An icon and one of the few frontmen of a band that wasn't a singer.

Right that's 5 I could go on forever. Bet you wished you hadn't asked now?
Must throw in these names though. Two up top (twin partnerships) which are hard to seperate. Gorham/Robertson, Murray/Smith, Downing/Tipton, Wilton/DeGarmo.
Nice one.
Tony Iommi is like a god to me, same as tens of millions of others I suppose. To have to learn to play an instrument again says it all to me. Heaven And Hell is a brilliant album and it's almost like Iommi had his shackles removed-mainly due to the musical genius that was Ronnie Jame Dio, he encouraged Iommi to experiment more.
I also agree about AC/DC, still to this day they haven't produced anything of note since For Those About To Rock in my opinion. Before that however, I think Angus was untouchable live and you have to keep reminding yourself how young he actually was in the mid to late seventies.
Would Randy Rhoads ever have made the list? A gem found by Ozzy and way way way ahead of his time. The kid could play anything.
Sorry for butting in, totally agree with the first four, I've seen them all, but what about this guy,? A personal favourite of mine.
