    Don't feel ashamed Jots. I was nine when we won the cup in 1954 and I'm sure that I didn't know what my dad earnt as a policeman at that time either.

    All I can tell you is neither would have earned much by today’s salaries. I found my old payslip from 1972 when I went to NZ to live. Weekly salary was £18 for a 40 hour week at aged 20 and that was about the norm then so salaries would have been a bit less than that in 1954.
