Just been listening to Radio5 Live. People's memories of him, as a footballer, manager and pundit, are wonderful. But nowhere near the respect and affection for him people had for him as a man. A huge loss to the game. Men like him aren't around in football anymore.
Brought a lump to my throat.

Last caller on P & G said he played for us in the early 50's. Can't see that being right.

A good story (for once) on Talksport earlier.

In his days as a pundit Jimmy was attending a press conference at LUFC when the guru of all footballing gurus, Howard Wilkinson was in charge.

Leeds had lost and Wilkinson was getting some stick and increasingly annoyed by the tone of the questions.

After one he snapped at the journalists " Well how many international caps have you lot got then?"

A well modulated, calm voice called out from the back "43 actually".

    Nice one Jimmy.

Ken. Also said Alex Forbes played at the same time but he left United in 1948. Jimmy Armfield would have been 13.
