Totally agree with all posts guys, - but weather we like it or not (pun very much intended) rain does put off a lot of people. However, this morning's forecast (for Saturday) now suggests that the rain will be gone by late morning and it will be mild - so that's a good thing.
Now the hard facts: - we are playing Brechin (who are not the most appealing of sides and will bring 19 - 25 supporters) and Queens have just been knocked out of the main cup competition, - so the perception (weather, - or rather whether we like it or not) amongst the 'potential paying punters' is that there's not a lot to play for this season and I expect the crowd to be around 1275 - 1325 tomorrow.
To change that perception amongst the ppp's the club needs to start putting together some high energy performances and scoring goals to get folk excited and thinking that Queens have a realistic chance of the play offs. I'm afraid you cannot criticise ppp's until the offer on the table is something more exciting than just cold ham and salad.
Once we get the team performing above the punters expectations, plus some more exciting teams on the menu then we will bring in a good few extra home supporters.
Very important that Queens get the win today as it would move us level on points with dunfermline after they lost last night.
I am feeling confident that we will win but brechin will make it tough but I think if we can get an early goal we can see them off quite comfortably.
Come on Queens!
A hat-trick of hat-tricks for Stephen Dobbie so far this season.
He’s now on 104 goals for Queens .....
1 251 Jim Patterson
2 120 Bobby Black
3 117 Derek Lyle
4 114 Andy Thomson
5 104 Stephen Dobbie
6 98 Jocky Dempster
7 95 Tommy Bryce
8 94 Stevie Mallan
9 93 Tommy McCall
Queens deserved the win today and Dobbie was determined to get his hat-trick, - almost at all costs! Was his other goal actually offside?
I would still like to see the team looking for other outlets rather than relying on our talisman, - as that actually would make it easier for Dobbie, - freeing him up and allowing him more space.
One criticism is Beerman seems unable to create an angle when we are in possession; there were a few times today when he was too close to the defender on the ball almost forcing a suicide pass. The lad has speed and ability, - he needs to dart for the touchline whenever we are in possession and then create an angle for a pass for himself, - or at worst pulling an opposition defender away from Dobbie to mark him.
Ross Fergusson did well again, - especially setting up Dobbie's third goal, while young Bell did well when he came on, - and Connor Murray was unlucky with his ferocious shot
As expected, Tapping had a good game for Brechin, as did their number 16 Morrison who has a lot of pace.
First time back since the Falkirk garbage. Can't complain today.Went about the game in the right manner without being particularly great.Horrible, horrible goal to lose which was supposedly expected.Things will be tougher from now on.Of the new guys, can't say any really caught the eye.As for Dobbie...a sainthood must be in the offing?
Very well done Queens.
Quite a scrappy game in front of the usual 1,200 die hards but a welcome 3 points none the less thanks to the
Dobmeister's third hat - trick of the season - now on to Paisley to take on the league leaders who are looking
good and will be over the moon that their title rivals the Arabs got beaten at home while they picked up a great
victory at Dunfermline on Friday.
I actually thought Beerman was fairly decent and I was surprised to see him subbed first. That was my first look at Fergusson and has the stature and is strongly built but I reckon he should use this more to his advantage. I suppose he will improve with more game time.
PS: I noticed that Calum Antell is still with Edinburgh City and they won 3-2 vs. Annan and Atkinson is back to warming the bench as Annan's 2nd choice keeper behind Mitchell.
