That ain't down to the club though it's an fa rule to make numbers clearly visible to refs!

I've heard that. But, if I am not mistaken, some clubs have stripes front and back eg Newcastle (I might be wrong). I think it comes down more to the manufacturers clubs are tied to.

You're right 165, Newcastle stripes front and back produced by Puma, Stoke plain back produced by Macron, Baggies navy back produced by Adidas, so I don't know the answer.

We had a Juventus-like style some years ago with a navy square over the stripes with white numbers?

Apologies guys it's a German rule hence adidas kits will only produce non striped backs but other manufacturers will do stripes! Either way I will happily say it's a catch phrase in my house every away kit has 1 thing wrong it's not green and yellow! Must say this seasons is ridiculous especially as we've worn a green kit more than the horrid white with a touch of red!

Agree, it's totally ridiculous to have a change strip that clashes with as many other clubs' strips as the normal colours do. While personally I'm not a great lover of the green and yellow strip, it is a good option as it will not clash with any clubs that we have to use a change strip against.
