Fulham can do us a favour by beating Villa and losing to us. If we then beat Cardiff and Villa we should be OK. The rest of Fulham's games in that 5 game run against playoff contenders is, IMO, irrelevant unless they happen to win all 5. Do that and they will be well and truly in the auto race.

Statistically 86 points should get second automatic promotion spot. As it is a little tight this year, apart from a rampant Wolves strolling away with it, maybe 84 would do, but lets assume we need 88 to be on the safe side.

At the moment we are on course for (pro rata) 86, but if we look at our form over the last 20 games, then we are maybe on course for more.

Looking at our remaining games, we have 9 against teams currently in the bottom half of the table, and our record is 10-4-1 against those teams so far. So 20-22 points would be a fair return.

We have to play 3 against teams currently between 12th and 6th, where our record is 5-2-2. 6 points would be a fair yield.

We have 4 against the other top 6 teams (having played Brizzle twice) but our record against the top 6 is just 1-3-2. So 4 points would be nice.

That gives us 87-89 points projection which should be enough.

Moral: we don't have to beat Fulham, Cardiff, Villa but we sure as hell don't want to let them get 3 points off us. Take care of the "easy" games and avoid defeat in those key games and that should be enough. Much as I would like to see us win those key games (and we dont do that often enough, to paraphrase the "late, great" Rats) our fate lies in the games against the bottom half.
