Who wants to deal in plain facts.
I think we will lose a lot of players. We will struggle. Staying up is imperitive. All the hard work over the past few seasons will have been wasted. Our players should be busting a gut to stay up.
Fact is, there are 13 teams vying for the 3 relegation spots from day one every season. We will always be one of them. We will come back up within a year or 2 (see Villa, Newcastle etc.) and recommence our relegation fight.
The first 2 sentence’s sum it up perfectly for me Chris. Spot on.
I just hope you are right on the last sentence though as there are as many examples of those who don’t come back within a year or 2 as there are those that do. I do though agree that if we do come back quickly then it will be just to resume the annual fight against relegation.
Having said all that still got to believe we can stay up but my head tells me that it is looking less and less likely.
I think that we are nailed on to get relegated: we need another 20 points at least to stay up, or looking at it another way, 7 wins out of 12 remaining games, which I honestly can't see us doing.
As for coping with relegation, I expect that many players will move on and we certainly won't bounce back like we did before when we were one of the strongest teams. The Championship is the toughest of leagues to gain promotion from and I sense that we may rot there for many years to come.
Whether we stop up or go down , the squad needs a massive shake up if we drop as looks the favourite at the minute we will lose probably the cream of the squad , that still leaves at least 5-6 players going out the door as well ( in my opinion) , be it age to slow or just dont cut it in the prem because they wont cut it in the championship ether HRK a prime example, yes skill wise not better players in the championship but you will always need pace & always need quality goal scorers & younger player who can stand up to the rigours of playing 2 games a week .
