FREE:..............Owner Ellis Short is prepared to give Sunderland away for free if a buyer can be found to take on the Championship club's substantial debt.

Short has said he is open to offers for the relegation-threatened club, but has failed to find a buyer.

Reports had said the American would accept £50m for his shares.

If the club can be bought for a pound and reports that Short will even write off the money he´s owed then the club could be bought for 68 million. Makes you think it´s the ideal time for a supporters buy out.

If only the 40,000 who went last season to games were all real supporters. Even if no loan is made; 3,000 quid from each of them would give 120 million - buy the club and have 50 million left for buying players??!!

True but some would be able to pay a lot more. It would be tough to organise but it´s been done before and the club is cheap.

Club is free but only if you are prepared to take on over £137 million debt.

Reports are that Short could be prepared to write off the money owed to him too meaning you could get the club for 50 million (Chronicle). I´m not suggesting that every match going supoporter from last season should or could fork out 3 grand, but it just shows how cheap it´s being sold for.

they're still haemorraging money at an alarming rate and have no saleable assets (player wise) an ageing squad that needs a full overhaul (possibly on league 1 income) they are not an attractive purchase, no matter what price he puts on them.....

it could easily have been us, and could still be. there will be an awful lot more clubs going that way before the premier league cash bubble eventually bursts and football implodes.
