I think he would be a benchwarmer at Chelsea for the time being, not quite the finished article yet. He should ignore any approach from Chelsea, and stay here which would be better for his development. I have no doubt though that he will move at some point,unless we can show some ambition in the future.

That's the only reason Ashley would have sanctioned the purchase. Nothing to do directly with them becoming good or better players but merely becoming a more valuable asset for him to cash in on.

One plus side is the new contract he signed. I think it runs till 2024? Or 2022. Either way it puts us in a strong position.

Chronicle were saying problem is despite his importance he's not one of our highest paid player (still falls to Shelvey) and if his agent starts whisper in his ear etc.

I think if we hold off over the summer, they'll move on to another target. Lascelles will only increase in value if he keeps improving the way he has been, so it's a win-win to keep hold of him. CB is a position where there's a real dearth of talent around Europe, so there'll always be a demand as long as he stays fit.
