The term ‘happy clapper’ is used quite often in our threads, in terms of supporting AFC, what is a happy clapper? who decides who is a happy clapper and what qualifies them to make that decision?
Someone with a strong sense of reality, one who appreciates the strengths and weaknesses of the players / management.
Someone who acknowledges the huge financial gap in the game and recognises the challenges that prevails accordingly.
Someone who constructive in the criticism and understands when to apply.
It's someone who is happy to applaud any old sh1te on the pitch; never criticises the manager, the players, anything basically.
Which is fine, if that floats your boat. AFC embrace all types of supporters
Could be a somebody who has smoked waaay too much weed. Or a beginner to supporting the Dons
Its a term i cant stand and have openly made that clear on various threads. It seems to be aimed at anyone who views something more positively than how the another person views it. Everyone wants what best for AFC, we have differing views and its a forum to debate it... the whole happy clapper, bed wetter terms are all a bit derogatory and pointless. In jest its fine, but its overly used on here for anything displaying a positive opinion. the same can be said for bed wetter, anyone with a negative view is deemed a bed wetter or pant pisher and its just as annoying.
I think it’s a legitimate criticism of fans who can accept losing to Celtic & Rangers, as long as we consistently beat Partick Thistle.
Also the ones that swallow the lies the club spoon feed them over a move out the city & the ones who point out that every managerial decision must be trusted, despite him making some absolute whoppers in the past
That’s not aimed at folk pointing out the benefits of a move, rather the ones saying that Pittodries doomed, we need ‘progression’ etc. Likewise on the playing front, there’s a difference between making the case for Consi at LB & welcoming a fat pikey rapist into the team because there’s a player in there somewhere & in Del we trust.
There is no case for playing Consi at left back.
I would say that it isnt a legitimate criticism at all. Everyone has a differing opinion on what is 'acceptable' as a fan. Some folk would take beating Celtic and Rangers over every other team, while the opposite is true for other fans. There are then those fans who dont care who we beat, as long as we are in a decent and realistic position in the league and/or do well in the cups.
The move over the stadium, well it was always going to split opinion and yes, there are those who listen to the club and continue to voice optimism for the project, maybe even blind optimism. By all means debate the topic and voice opinion on the matter, which we all do, but to label someone a happy clapper for trying to see the good in something is condescending. The same can be said for those that label folk as pant pishers... its just as bad.
Labeling groups of people is lazy. Its just a way of saying you're all wrong and deciding to tar everyone with the same brush, rather than accept an opinion may differ from yours regardless of their evidence for believing it. When a post states "lets wait for the happy clappers to come along and tell us its all okay... " or "here come the bed wetters after one defeat"... blah blah is boring af.
Nae a rant or dig at anyone personally, just an opinion!!!
