In my case, there is no love, I simply see the EU as the lesser of two evils. The phrase 'Taking control of our own destiny' was much used by the leave campaign, but I would rather place our destiny in the hands of the EU than people like Boris f@cking Johnson.

This is what I cannot understand. You are happy to have your destiny controlled by those you cannot remove? You CANNOT remove!!!!

Yes, because I think they offer a better destiny than the alternative.

The EU Commission is the executive branch of EU government and is composed of commissioners whose names have been put forward by the leaders we vote for.

The EU parliament is the legislative body, the body which votes on whether to approve these laws or not, and is composed of representatives directly elected by us.

I personally can't get too hot under the collar about this supposed dictatorship: it's not perfect but it's a mix of directly and indirectly elected representatives.

At the end the day we have an electoral system that essentially robs anyone who doesn't vote for Labour or the Conservatives of their vote, our second chamber is unelected and at least as unaccountable as anyone in Brussels, and generally speaking our Prime Minister at any given time is afraid to take a **** without running the idea past Rupert Murdoch or Paul Dacre.

A bit of perspective required perhaps.

I haven't heard of it either EP but if I had to have a bet I would be highly confident of backing against it being complimentary

Congrats, Driller. Possibly your best post for weeks. Of course, it helps that I totally agree with it and it constitutes an excellent response to Mr? (Don't know why but I suspect Hayle is female because of his/her 'gentle logic') Hayle.
And like Elite, I see the EU is pitted with failings but preferable to Bozo, Smoggy & the Bullies from Bullingdon. Of course, we do vote in the EU elections so change can be brought about. The EU Commission is the equivalent of the higher reaches of our own Civil Service. Ask the average leaver to explain the difference between Tusk and Barnier and they haven't got a fricking clue.
Furthermore, Hayle, the left does not have a love affair with the EU (as you imply) many socialists I am friends with are disappointed that I remain a remainer. The main factor? The economy. I am totally unconvinced that Davies and his ilk can get us out of this one and, even if they could, it will certainly take a generation (25 years) before we're firing on all cylinders again.

I'd say more like the PM and cabinet of the government than the civil service, with the individual commissioners being the ministers responsible for policy proposals in a particular sector.

Didn't this answer the second part of your question?
