Yep, got me again. When I first came on here I soon realised just how bad my English can be. Not really having written anything for years I was slightly embarrassed. So much so I looked at some grammar software. Then I though fluck it.
You have the English language , I am happy with the more practical skills I possess.

ps , When this bloody weather clears I need to fit some windows at a flat I own. Never fitted windows before but I am confident . What I need to know from you though , windows or window's ? Thanks in advance Mr Snobhead. Simply the best.

A proper noun is defined as: "A name used for an individual person, place, or organization, spelled with an initial capital letter, e.g. Jane, London, and Oxfam." (Google)

There is no organisation called Illiterates whose members Serious was talking about, nor was it an individual person or place, so it's a common noun, not a proper one.

If just referring to a group required a capital letter, then all plurals would need capitalisation as they are all groups by definition.

For instance: Not all communists are members of the Communist Party. Only those who are may be called Communists.
Thanks for your contribution, S7, but I still remain with my conviction that Serious was correct because in the context of his sentence he is describing a specific group (of his own construction). Whatever. I always say that grammar only matters if its misuse mangles up meaning.
Mr Navy, for example, slags himself off unnecessarily on his grammar. I almost always understand what he is saying despite a few small mistakes. He's certainly among the top 10% of posters on here for plain English.

Back to the fat Abbott ......... I think the word you were looking for is F(l)atulence. Can you imagine her, Thornberry and that other academic Rayner passing as much wind from their arses as they do from their gobs. Throw in Tom Watson for equality's sake and if they all let rip at the same time it'd clear the Commons faster than even the fabled trapeze artist with diarrhoea could do.
Are you 8 or 78, Serious? You're really scraping the barrel here.
And Diane Abbott (who has a Masters History degree from Cambridge University - they don't grow on trees) had clearly lost a lot of weight on last night's Question Time.

Serious did not invent the term 'illiterates'. Just because he is referring to a subset of illiterates does not make it an organisation and therefore is not a proper noun. No wonder you are trying to back-pedal on the importance of correct grammar - you don't actually understand it!

No one has to listen to Sid on the subject any more. He is certainly not an authority.

She will need that History Degree....to recall the last time that Labour ever managed to con the British voters into voting for them ie Tory~lite Bliar....as each year rolls by, that memory will become more distant with the likes of her in the Shadow Cabinet!

20 years from now, Labour will be screaming for PR....just so they can get a few seats at the "big boy table"

She certainly doesn't have one in maths or sociology .
Makes me laugh how EP jumps on the white supremacist band wagon, when the shadow home secretary is a blatant, anti white racist caught out many times. Never one word or demand for removal from the Leninista's here.

Don't agree with the left/EU/free immigration etc and you're a closet Nazi.
Hitler regarded himself as a "socialist" and we know how that turned out, as the blind fell into line.

Dimbleby had said the previous week that the Abbo would be appearing but no mention made about it last night. Probably the weather or was 'ill' again.

You and the cabbages on here who share your views definitely can’t be accused of being “closet” Nazis.

There is not a definitive answer to this quandary, 7S, though you might like to pretend there is.

So, according to you, would it be National Riflemen or national riflemen if you were referring to the American lobby group?
