My villain was in the next cubicle to me in A&E last weekend. I overheard the nurse saying 'so you called an ambulance, because you've got a sore back!'

I asked my Polish nurse about this and she said that it happens all the time and that people call an ambulance because they think it jumps the queue. She said that if you did this in Poland, you would be charged for the call out.

Knowing how over stretched they are I insisted that I would be alright, but my paramedics weren't happy with my stats.

There are many things wrong with the NHS, much of it being the patients.

I had need of A&E a couple of weeks ago and was very impressed by the care standards - almost seemed overattentive at times, but I wasn't complaining. The wait was not too bad and all in all a positive experience. But as you say, some of the patients.... it was around midnight and I very much got the impression that it comprised a warm place to go after the pub! Not one person there appeared to be unwell - although I accept that its impossible for me to judge the ailments of others from merely sitting adjacent to them.

At least I had a limp and a pronounced lump!

When I was rushed in last November, I wouldn't have faulted anyone. Within 2 hours of ambulance ejection, I was under the knife for the first of two ops.
Though on the way down to the QMC, the paramedic did say, their last call turned out to be a case to much to drink. All that happened was, he'd passed out and fell asleep.

My last four visits, all with my daughter who at the time had a life-threatening condition that needed urgent attention if certain symptoms occur have been appalling. Sorry to go against the grain.

Agreed Ram59. The amount and level of abuse that nurses, teachers, social workers, firemen and ambulance staff have to deal with from sections of the public is a total disgrace. Sounds like the Poles have it right.

Mate of mine hurt his arm and shoulder recently playing ice hockey. Got seen quickly at A&E. He now has to see a spcialist...... appointment is in June. He is not a happy chappy. Self employed singer/songwriter/performer and also personal traiuner/fitness coach.

You will find both good and bad stories about the NHS. Fortunately, the general picture is one of staff working themselves into the ground to help as quickly as possible.
